Pursuit of Parenting

This book is a heartfelt account of my journey as a parent of a special needs child—a journey filled with ups and downs, new learnings, and personal transformation. Coming from a small town and adjusting to city life brought its own challenges, but every step shaped me into the person I am today. I’ve shared my experiences—from the struggles of pregnancy, my child’s birth, and post-delivery challenges to how I navigated through them. I talk about my daughter’s physical health, academic challenges, and the ways we tackled them. More importantly, I discuss how others—parents, teachers, and the community—can offer support in similar situations. This book is also about the emotions that come with this journey—the joys, the sorrows, and the lessons they bring. I reflect on the role of family, friends, and neighbors, the sibling bond, and the invaluable support that kept us going. One of the key messages in this book is the importance of self-care. You must take care of yourself first in order to help your child. I’ve shared self-care tips, insights on overcoming fears, and strategies for teaching your child, along with practical parenting and academic guidance. I’m deeply grateful to my friends who stepped forward to share their own journeys, which you’ll find in the Success Stories chapter. This book may not have all the answers, but I hope it serves as an inspiration. I hope it instills hope, encourages you to push beyond your limits, and helps you seize opportunities—not just for your child, but for yourself as well.
