A DOCTOR IS ON THE BED

The Irony of the Medical Profession Doctors spend their lives learning how to save others. Perhaps one of the most important lessons they must learn is that they are not exempt from needing to be saved themselves. There is a paradox at the heart of the medical profession. Doctors are trained to recognise disease, prevent complications, and intervene when something goes wrong. They learn to read an ECG, interpret a blood report, recognise the warning signs of a heart attack, and advise patients about diet, exercise, sleep, and stress. Yet many doctors struggle to apply the same principles to themselves.
