Teacher as a ‘Job Giver’
Author: Dr. Rajendra Mahajan
Hello friends, I visited a higher secondary school at the end of July 2024 for the practice verification program of failed students of 10th and 12th. I met the students in person, reviewed their preparation for the exam, guided them about employment opportunities, and inspired them to pass. After that, I held a brainstorming meeting with the teachers and counseled them. While reviewing the meeting, I noticed that, "A young teacher of a subject travels from village to village to find students because he does not get any students for his subject. Students of his subject do not get jobs, there are no opportunities in jobs," and so on. This experience was the motivation for this writing. Considering the 'student' as the focal point, we also have to make ourselves aware of what employment opportunities will be available to him in the future? How will they be available? Where will they be available? We should also be able to get knowledge about this. We should go out of track and be able to bring our students on the track of opportunity. By thinking out of the box, we should be able to provide the box of opportunity to students. This thought was ingrained in my mind. If we, as subject experts, are not aware of the opportunities, professions, employment, jobs, self-employment, and industries in our subject, how will we guide our students? This question arose before me. At the same time, it occurred to me, “If every teacher can develop the necessary abilities and skills of all the students in our subject and provide them with the right opportunities in the future, then there will be no need to go looking for students.” For this, as teachers, we ourselves will have to be aware, work hard, think from a slightly different perspective, and I think this idea is the real foundation of writing the book ‘Career Guru’. In order to create employment, job, and profession opportunities for students or to search for opportunities, we will have to awaken the self-confidence of the students along with us. Everyone wants opportunities, the will to seize opportunities should be created. For ‘Teachers who give opportunities’, we will have to be mentally prepared to open our minds to new paths, new work, new thoughts, new concepts, and accept responsibility. ‘Teacher as a Job Giver’ should not be taken blindly, but should be taken consciously. Students should be able to create a conducive environment, guidance, training management, counseling, etc. for them to become entrepreneurs. It is the duty of the government to create industry or employment, and it is our duty to provide guidance and counseling regarding suitable opportunities. How will teachers become ‘job givers’? This is a great question! Although teachers are not generally considered to be ‘job givers’ in the scientific sense, they can play a significant role in helping their students to enrich their work force and latent quality and potentially become ‘job creators’ or ‘job holders’ in the future. Everyone should decide with regard to their subject, class, the subject I teach; isn’t it my responsibility to provide employment, business, job opportunities in the future to the students whose existence gives me the opportunity to remain in service? This new concept needs to be instilled in us with the aim of the campaign “My Students, My Responsibility”. Friends, this is a small effort made so that we can go on a new and different path and make special efforts to provide employment opportunities to students. - Dr. Rajendra Bhimrao Mahajan
