BIRBAL SINGH is a writer, researcher, and language activist engaged in the study, documentation, and promotion of the Mundari language and its cultural traditions. He has authored six plays in Mundari and directed their stage productions, contributing to the development of contemporary Mundari theatre. He has also written more than fifteen Mundari song lyrics, many of which have been released as recorded music albums and have received wide public recognition. His short stories have been presented at literary seminars and meets organised by the Sahitya Akademi in New Delhi, Baripada, Ranchi, and Rairangpur. He served as the General Secretary of Mundari Samaj Sanwar Jamda from 2015 to 2022 and currently serves as the Convenor of the Mundari Language Coordination Committee (MLCC), where he is actively involved in the documentation of indigenous knowledge systems and language-based cultural movements. As a related grandson of Olguru Rohidas Singh Nag, the inventor of the Mundari Bani script, the author brings both personal proximity and scholarly engagement to this biography. This work functions as a tribute as well as a historical and cultural record, aimed at preserving the intellectual and linguistic legacy of Olguru for future generations.
